It wasn’t Merlin’s fault. I know what you’re thinking, but it wasn’t. He was trying to use magic to keep intruders from getting into Arthur’s chambers. It was a good idea, and would have been helpful if it had been done correctly. The problem with magic and spells and shit was that they weren’t in English and nobody could pronounce the words or really understand what they meant. Merlin had been trying to memorize a lot lately because having to look in a book every time he didn’t have an answer for something was becoming tedious and aggravating. He may have slightly overestimated his ability to remember certain incantations and somewhere between the first and last word leaving his mouth something went horribly wrong. In his defense Merlin was in Arthur’s chambers so nobody would be going in there because nobody ever went in there except Arthur and Gwen… which were the two people who walked in and he could have thought that one through a little better. The door was opened, Merlin looked over at them and as he finished speaking the incantation, he watched them change in front of him. He initially stared at them drop-jawed though it only took a moment for him to begin panicking. ”Noooo no no no no no,” he said, walking around in circles aggressively. ”Alright... rulers of Camelot are children. No big deal--this is not good. This is—“ He glanced over at the two—they’d been nearly half-sized. He quickly used magic (because when we mess up everything with magic we continue to use magic to do things that it isn’t necessary for) to close the door behind them, keeping the two from leaving the room. He did not need them being seen right now. ”Arthur…..Gwen?” He spoke cautiously, not really wanting to hear the damage he’d done.

“Arthur!” Gwen called down the hall when she saw her husband. It was amazing that they had made it as far as they had together. She walked swiftly towards him replaying all the memories they shared. Starting with the first time they met, in Morgana’s room. The small adventures they went on that day. Then skip forward in time to their first kiss. It was in her house, during a tournament. She had told him off the night before and apparently it struck a cord. After that it was a domino effect with their feelings and events. They had tried to stay away from each other without any success. They were in love and managed to overcome all the obstacles that were in their way. Thinking about it now, Gwen had to admit it was like a movie. A terrible love story. Or a romantic comedy if you only highlighted the antics that happened. Especially with Merlin around. That boy… So many things have happened. Their lives should be made into a movie or a TV show or something…so that somewhere someone can find entertainment in it. Once Gwen reached Arthur she smiled at him softly. “I have been looking for you everywhere. Where’s Merlin?” Usually the two of them were together. Where Gwen would find one, she would find the other. Hence why she was essentially looking for Merlin all day too.
Just as she was asking about Merlin, whispers started coming from their chambers. “Is someone in there?” Gwen asked curiously. Okay so it was best not to ask silly and stupid questions in this world. Before could say or do anything, Gwen walked up to the door and quickly opened it. There stood Merlin muttering in a language that was foreign to her. Before she could ask him what was going on there was a sensation running through her body. She glanced over at Arthur and before she knew it, she was shrinking…?! Why was she shrinking?! Why was he shrinking?! Why wasn’t Merlin changing?! What was going on?! The sensation was suddenly gone and her dress was slowly falling off of her. Awkward. Gwen shuffled uneasily around in the overgrown dress. “What…what happened?” Gwen asked quietly a suddenly wave of confusion and sadness washed over her. And she couldn’t explain why, she couldn’t even explain the feelings. They were just so over whelming. Merlin spoke her name and she glanced up at his worried face. And suddenly tears were streaming down her eyes and she couldn’t stop it. And suddenly she began wailing, it didn’t help that Merlin shut the door with magic. That just made it worse. What was going on?

Arthur walked down the corridor towards his chambers somewhat swiftly, thankful for the emptiness of the hall and the silence.. for once. It was one of those days when every time it seemed like he might have five minutes to himself, something else came up, so when he’d finally settled what he hoped was the last debate of the day, he headed right to his room. It wasn’t so much alone time Arthur was looking for as it was Gwen, who he hadn’t seen since the early morning, and was hoping to run across. Which.. was exactly what had happened. Arthur stopped in his tracks when he heard his name being called, turning to smile at his wife. ”Guinevere!” He waited for her to catch up with him before continuing to walk towards their room. After what had seemed like forever, the two of them were finally able to be together (without threat of death or bizarre enchantment- oh wait Merlin). Everything was as it should be. And Arthur wouldn’t trade it for anything.
”I have been looking for you everywhere. Where’s Merlin?” ”Probably being lazy, stupid, or some creative combination of the two.” Oh, did you think after the whole magic-revealing life-saving thing Arthur was going to stop making fun of Merlin? Ha. Yeah. No. Doing so would be a complete detriment to the entire foundation of their relationship. Not to mention, that was exactly what Merlin was doing- as they would soon find out. It was very strange that Arthur and Merlin hadn’t been together, and Arthur could only guess what kind of trouble he was getting himself into. ”It seems Camelot’s still in one piece though, so I’m not too concerned.” Again, it was obviously a joke. Camelot owed Merlin everything (..even if almost every disaster he prevented was caused by him in the first place and that was the part Arthur was going to say out loud more regularly).
As they got closer to their room, it was evident that they were no longer alone. Gwen asked if someone was there and, hearing no response, Arthur moved closer to her, ready to handle a dangerous situation should they walk in on one. ”Merlin?” he called, knowing he was the most likely person to be in there.. whether he had a reason for it or not. Gwen opened the door, and surely enough, there was Merlin, facing them with his token ‘well I screwed up’ expression, though Arthur did not have the chance to ask his exactly what he’d done because without seconds he was.. changing. A strange sensation ran through his body as everything in the room seemed to grow twice in size. No.. he was shrinking. And, looking at Gwen, he realized that she was too. ”Alright… rulers of Camelot are children. No big deal.” ”I am not a child.” he asserted. He ran to the mirror to see for himself what had happened however before he got there he noticed his sword leaning against the wall and that was obviously a lot more exciting than a mirror so he grabbed it and started swinging it around. ”Don’t cry Gwen, Merlin’s going to fix it!”

So he’d sort of messed up big time…but he couldn’t tell Gaius because that was always more difficult than trying to figure a solution out for himself even if it took twice as long that way. Anyway so Gwen asked what happened…which made Merlin think maybe they were just younger-looking, though that went to shit when she started crying. They actually were younger and Merlin had no idea what he had done to cause it (though if there was one thing he was sure of it was that he hadn’t successfully protected the room from intruders because nothing he’s ever trying to do actually happens). Arthur was being an obnoxious kid which did not surprise Merlin in the slightest. I am not a child. ”Uh—yes, you definitely are—don’t do that!” he exclaimed as Arthur headed for the mirror. He didn’t know how much of this they’d remember assuming he’d even get them back to normal and he didn’t need them actually seeing what Merlin had done (not that that was going to help him much but it sounded like a good idea at the time to avoid it). Anyway as bad as he figured Arthur seeing himself would be, what he did instead was so much worse. He started playing with a sword which was just great because it was far too big for him and he could easily hurt himself with it if he wasn’t careful. Don’t cry Gwen, Merlin’s going to fix it! Merlin looked at Gwen and nodded. ”Yes, he is. Don’t cry.. just…don’t move either…” He looked quickly back at Arthur. ”Arthur… put the sword down.” Because that was going to work. Arthur didn’t listen to Merlin. It didn’t matter how old he was. He quickly looked at Gwen again before awkwardly lifting her and sitting her on a bed so that he could keep both of them in his sight at once. He then reached for the sword that Arthur was holding before using magic to knock it out of his hands.

Gwen sniffed a little when Arthur told her to stop crying and Merlin quickly followed suit. She felt a few tears roll down her face as she watched Arthur swing the big sword around. She giggled slightly, a sign of a swooning little girl. Arthur was just adorable and so funny. “He is?” Gwen questioned with hope laced in her voice. She wasn’t doubting Merlin, she never doubted Merlin. She questioned him at times but never doubted him. And as a little kid, him being the only adult in the room, she looked up to him. Literally and figuratively. Then suddenly Gwen was being lifted up and set down on the bed by Merlin. She looked at him curiously, was she so bad to be picked up? Then suddenly he took the sword out of Arthur’s hands, magically. “Hey! That’s not nice!” Guinevere exclaimed in a high pitched voice. Of course the two boys weren’t paying any attention to her. They were too busy with the sword and magic. Typical for both of them. It was Arthur and Merlin. Weapons were in Arthur’s blood, just like magic was in Merlin’s. So of course they wouldn’t pay attention to the small girl in the corner who never brought anything interesting to the table. Well she was pretty bad ass at getting Arthur to do things without much persuasion. It was her true gift, well that and helping the boys get out of the trouble they always caused. Okay so she wasn’t useless after all. Well in adult form she wasn’t useless. Right now, she was.
Sighing, she patted the comforter she sat upon thoughtfully. It was fluffy and bouncy. She smiled brightly, tripping slightly at the overgrown dress. Giggling to herself, she began jumping up and down. Once again she was pretty sure the boys were too busy with their own things to bother with her at the moment. Her bounces were getting higher and higher. She never realized this bed was so dang bouncy or had this ability. She laughed as she jumped higher and higher. Suddenly she was on the other side of the bed and began to lose to footing. She let out a scream as she grabbed onto the nearest curtain. It ripped off and sent her flying down onto the bedside table. Destroying that and breaking some very badly placed pots. She landed in the rubble and began crying once more. This time louder than earlier. Gwen was pretty sure she was bruises and banged up. She quickly sat up, sniffling a little more. Trying to stop the tears, but it was just so painful and she was just a little kid. The tears stung her eyes and she began wailing once more. “Merlin! Arthur!” she wailed. Everything hurt and she couldn’t stop crying. And this stupid dress was just getting in the way. Why was she even wearing this to begin with?!

Arthur smiled at Gwen when she giggled, clearly pleased with the attention he was getting while he played with the big sword. Even at this age, Arthur knew how to handle himself with the weapon, but the fact that this one was huge made him sort of clumsy. He still thought he was pretty awesome however, and Gwen’s enjoyment was just ego fueling. ”He is?” ”Of course!” Now, there was ‘of course, I trust Merlin with my life and have faith in his ability to come up with a solution to our problem’ and ‘of course, because if he doesn’t he’ll end up in the stocks for a month’… I don’t need to tell you which one this was. But, heres a hint, it wasn’t there first. ”Arthur.. put the sword down.” ”I’m the King, Merlin! You can’t tell me what to do!” That was his job. Next thing he knew however the sword was being forced out of his hands and across the floor. ”Merlin!” he exclaimed. Stupid sorcerers abusing their power.. Arthur chased after it, getting a grip on the hilt again just as Gwen crashed into the floor. Well, there went the time to be proud of himself. Even though five year old Arthur thought girls were stupid and disaster was funny his feelings for Gwen carried over so of course he was concerned that she could be hurt. He ran over to the side of the bed where they were. ”Gwen, are you alright?” He offered her a hand to get up again and then turned towards Merlin, pointing the sword at him threateningly. ”Would you do something?” Knowing Merlin's 'something' would probably involve trying to take his sword again Arthur quickly climbed on the bed, ran across, and jumped off the other side. It was actually fun being surrounded by all this big furniture. It was like a bouncy training course. He jumped on the bed some more, finally getting high enough to grab the upper post and swing on it.

Well this was going disastrously (it’s a word I checked). Merlin didn’t know if it was the age thing or if they were feeling extra obnoxious lately but Arthur and Gwen were particularly attentive to one another at the moment and Merlin was being ganged up on…by two five year olds. He is? ”Yes, he is!” he responded, mildly offended by the lack of confidence going on here. He could fix it. He could. If they’d let him focus for two seconds instead of nearly killing themselves. They were too busy yelling at him to try to just be careful. I’m the King, Merlin! You can’t tell me what to do! ”You’re under five feet tall, sire,” he pointed out though face palming as he realized he’d used the title. I mean, he was still addressing Arthur and Arthur was still Arthur, but this was ridiculous—he would not be ordered around by children. Surely neither of them was exactly in their right mind. Hey! That’s not nice! ”You know what else wouldn’t be nice? The king of Camelot stabbing himself to death with his own blade.” Okay so that could have been filtered like a little bit but now he was just frustrated. Merlin quickly moved toward Arthur as he picked the sword up again though he wasn’t quick enough because he was trying to keep an eye on both of them and Gwen decided it was time to jump around like an animal. When she fell, Merlin cringed and ran over to her. ”Don’t cry, Gwen, it’s alright,” he said in a slightly panicked tone. He clearly wasn’t fit to watch children. He took Gwen by the hand and pulled her up and proceeded to repair the side table using magic. ”I’ll fix it. I’ll fix everything,” he muttered, backing up initially from Arthur’s sword and then shaking his head in exasperation as he remembered that he was the one in charge. Merlin was in charge. It didn’t matter what Arthur said. This was an exception. ”Put. The sword. Down.” he repeated more sternly before rolling his eyes as he too began jumping around. He gestured at Gwen in aggravation. ”Now after what just happened to you really think that’s a good idea?” Now he was swinging from a post on the bed. ”Do you two know what will happen to me if I let either of you get hurt?” He sighed exasperatingly and narrowed his eyes at Arthur, muttering an attempt at a solution spell however as Merlin’s eyes flashed gold, Arthur’s appearance did not change. Great.

[/style] [style=text-align:center; text-size: 9px;]WORDS: ### TAGGED: Arthur and Merlin <333 NOTES: Gwen is a very energetic child! |
For the record Gwen was not trying to offend Merlin in anyway shape or form by asking that question. She was just asking a question. Gwen couldn’t be offense as an adult let alone as a child. And secondly, Merlin was using a magic and it was a clear disadvantage to the two of them. Ganging up on him was the only way these two kids were going to deal with the fact that they were no longer adults. But anyways! Back to the actual thread. Gwen was happy to see Arthur and Merlin come to her rescue. Even though the nightstand took more damage then she did. But still it was the thought that counted. She sniffled slightly when Merlin told her to stop crying and tried to rub her eyes but failed when both boys decided to give her a hand up. Most women would be dying to be in her position. Okay not in her position in this exact moment in time. But generally speaking they would. “Uh huh,” she answered Arthur’s question quietly. Gwen quickly turned to Merlin, whose hand she refused to let go of at this point. And again Arthur was swinging is sword around, threatening Merlin to fix things. Something Merlin should really get to about now. And then Arthur was swinging on the bed. Making Gwen giggle at him some more. It was obvious the two still held some affection towards each other. Do you two know what will happen to me if I let either of you get hurt? “Arthur will put you in the stocks until you’re old and crippled?” Gwen asked curiously, looking up at Merlin. She giggled once more before finally letting go of Merlin’s hand and getting back on the bed.
This time though she decided not to start jumping up and down, learning her lesson the first time. Instead she grabbed a pillow, swung it around, and managed to whack Merlin in the face with it. Hard enough for the pillow to break once and for the feathers to fly out. Gwen paused and smiled at him apologetically before going to get more pillows. She another one open and begin to throw the feathers in the air. The boys were once again busy with each other, so it was up to Gwen to make her own fun. Once she got through at least three more pillows, the girl and the bed was covered in feathers. Something that Merlin was going to have to clean up later. “I’m sorry, Merlin,” Gwen apologized as she slid off the bed and ran over to Merlin. She quickly wrapped her tiny arms around his legs to give him a hug. And then suddenly, if things couldn’t get worse, the warning bell went off. Scaring Gwen in the process, she let out a scream at the initial sound and then ran to the window to see what was going on. All she could see were knights running around the court yard trying to arm themselves. “I think the knights are going to have a party! We should join them!” Gwen exclaimed and grinned at Arthur, completely ignoring the fact that the warning bell was going off. She quickly ran to the door and yanked it opened. Glancing around the halls, she bolted to the right without warning.

”You’re under five feet tall, sire” ”Really, Merlin? I hadn’t noticed. I think it’s because someone turned us in to children.” Okay, in Arthur defense, Merlin really had that one coming to him. This whole thing was caused by his mistake so listening to him really wasn’t something Arthur felt very obligated to do in the moment. However, in Merlin’s defense, Arthur never listened to Merlin. Even when he wasn’t being an idiot. So the situation was entirely irrelevant to the obnoxiousness. But you didn’t hear that from me. ”I know how to use a sword!” Arthur retorted quickly when Merlin implied he would kill himself. None too shockingly Arthur was a lot more prideful and defensive of that as a child than he was as an adult, so if Merlin wanted to get through to him he was going to need to try something other than ordering him around. As it was, he felt the need to prove his point so he spun his sword around impressively, or, what would have been impressively had he not dropped it and cut himself as soon as Gwen started crying. He picked it up quickly and ran over to them. ”I’ll fix it. I’ll fix everything.” Arthur slowly removed his sword from Merlin’s face, nodding his approval, and then going back to what he was doing. Merlin seemed to think that that wans’t a good idea but…again.. Merlin. Merlin didn’t know anything. When Arthur was actually five, he was never allowed to jump on the bed, let alone with a sword in his hand. Of course he was going to make the most of it. He mentioned something about what would happen to him if he let either of them get hurt and Gwen answered before Arthur had the chance to. ”Arthur will put you in the stocks until your old an crippled?” ”He most certainly will,” he agreed. ”In fact it’s looking more likely by the moment.” Gwen began tearing open pillows and Arthur stopped jumping for a moment to watch her, smiling as she giggled each time the feathers flew around the room (although the most enjoyable round was obviously when the pillow hit Merlin in the face). Then their moment of nondestructivness was cut off by the sound of the warning bell. Arthur tensed up and ran to the window. ”I think the knights are having a party! We should join them!” ”No, Gwen, stay here!” She ran out the door anyway and Arthur hurried after her. Luckily, Arthur was faster than her and he managed to catch up and grab her by the wrist. ”Gwen, stay with Merlin! Watch her.” he added the last part sternly in Merlin’s direction. Obviously, Arthur needed to go and see what was going on. That was his job. But he absolutely was not allowing Gwen outside the castle.

I think it’s because someone turned us into children. Merlin sighed. ”I’m very aware—thank you for the reminder.” He knew that he had messed up. He didn’t need to hear it every two seconds. For the record if there was ever a good time to cooperate…this was it. They sort of had an issue to resolve. I know how to use a sword! ”Not when it’s one half of your entire body weight!” Obviously Merlin and children didn’t get on well. He began pacing as Gwen’s hand remained in his. Pretty soon they were both going insane. Arthur will put you in the stocks until you’re old and crippled? He most certainly will, ”Why don’t I just bring myself there now so you two can figure this out on your own,” he muttered, starting to think he was never going to fix this. ”For every hour I get in the stocks I get a day in the tavern once I’m released.” Obviously Arthur as a kid didn’t intimidate Merlin as much. Whatever—he was already in trouble he may as well go all out with it. So then he sort of got really flustered and put his hands in the air and all. ”If you could be quiet and not rambunctious for a few seconds…” Then yanno maybe he’d be able to concentrate a little bit. The jumping and such was getting ridiculous. I’m sorry, Merlin, ”It’s alright,” he muttered again, just beginning to believe she’d start to be a sane person before the damn warning bell. ”Gwen!” And she was out. ”Damn—“ He looked around quickly before Arthur ran out and grabbed her. Watch her. Yeah, yeah, stern. Merlin got it. He took Gwen’s hand and went to grab Arthur’s arm. ”Sire, you can’t go out there either.” Nobody could know what happened. Besides, if word got out that the king of Camelot was a child shit would start going down. [/style][/style]
